Suzanne Roels Soprano and actress

Soprano Suzanne Roels combines her love of opera and theatre to create such unique shows and concerts; The play ‘Where’s my money? By John Patrick Shanley, Onewomanshow A Soul’s Journey, Concert L’amour con passíon, STORIE D’AMORE, Theatre-Concert The Magic Rose, Les Bijoux, Concert in Heaven, Song to the Moon, New Year’s Concert, and Fairy Tale Concert. Fairy Tale Concert is about a pirate and three princesses; Hilaria, Dramaria and Lalaria, and was entirely devised and written by Suzanne Roels. Humour, drama and poignancy alternate in the presentation, which is filled with arias, songs and more.

Suzanne Roels has studied at the Guilford School of Acting in the U.K. where she has studied with opera singer Maureen Morell. Having returned to the Netherlands, she has acted in various theatre productions, soaps, commercials and films, and followed acting and singing masterclasses in the Netherlands and abroad. She studied with baritone David Wilson Johnson and mezzosoprano Christa Pfeiler, received coaching from opera director Elsina Jansen. She now studies with tenor Bram Nobart. In preparation for the CD Les Bijoux, she worked with Robin Bowman and Rudolf Jansen. In 2021 Suzanne started studying at the Universal Voice to broaden her singing skills to pop and musical.

Suzanne regularly gives concerts and recitals with pianist Maarten Hillenius. Singing in ‘Scrooge’ Zuiderparktheater DenHaag, Canal Concert OudZuid Amsterdam, Nazomernachtlicht (theatre in the woods) Overveen, Cromhouthuis Amsterdam, Opening Sail Amsterdam; The Parade theatre show, Mermaidshow for Teylersmuseum Haarlem, the Paauw pond concert Wassenaar, City on the Water at the new Bimhuis concert hall, The Brabantse Dag (Theatre-festival), Open-air Concert at the ‘ De Haerecastle’ and for the Prins Bernhard Culture Fund. She frequently appears with her Theatre-Concerts in theatres, churches and castles across the Netherlands. With her performance as De Hoge C-meermin (The mermaid) she sings all sorts of mermaid aria’s and songs, a special programme for children and adults. Les Bijoux; French Songs of Fauré, Chausson, DuParc and Hahn, is her debut CD.

In November 2018 Suzanne presented her new Onewoman show ‘A Soul’s Journey, a story with Opera, dance and Shakespeare monologues, in English, with pianist Maarten Hillenius, director Kevin Bennett, choreographer Sophia Maria Kienhuis in Tobaccotheatre in Amsterdam. In 2022 and 2023 she has been doing Meisner actingclasses of Alex Murphy at Mulholland academy.

In 2023 and 2024 she produced the english play ‘Where’s my money?’ by John Patrick Shanley and played the lead role of Nathalie in the English theatre ‘Mike’s Badhuistheater’ in Amsterdam.
